I found a profile I like, how do I send the person an email?

Only VIP Members may initiate email communication with other members. VIPs may send an unlimited amount of email messages to as many members as desired. To become a VIP Member, simply log in and click on the VIP link near the top of the page. You will be guided through the VIP registration process.

The only exception to this rule is that you are welcome to initiate email communication with OPEN CLUB Members, even if you are not a VIP Member. To find OPEN CLUB Members, when you browse Member Profiles look for the OPEN CLUB icon that appears besides the members’ photos. You may also choose OPEN CLUB membership as a search criterion when you search the member base.

How is the email I send to other members anonymous?

Your registered email address will be kept confidential at all times. The email that you send to other members using the JAPUNDIT Personals system is totally anonymous.

What is the difference between Search and Match?

SEARCH enables you to specify the types of member profiles you want to see. You can perform an unlimited number of searches by changing the preferences and characteristics of your desired match. Start with age and gender. Then narrow your search with geography, ethnicity, physical characteristics, lifestyle practices, and relationship desires. Don’t forget to experiment. Just like the offline world, you never know where you'll find your ideal match!

MATCH refers to IDEAL MATCH, JAPUNDIT Personals’ unique two-way matching system that locates all of the types of members that you are looking for and combines the list with those members who are looking for people with a profile like yours. IDEAL MATCH locates and lists members who have mutual matches on six special criteria. With JAPUNDIT Personals, we do the work so that you can more easily find people who will be a good fit for you!

How do Smiles work?

Do you like someone’s profile? Do you want to let them know that you like them but you don’t have a VIP Membership? Well, by sending a SMILE to another member you can show them that you like them and maybe they will initiate contact with you. You have an unlimited amount of SMILES you can send, so have fun and let that special someone know that you like them. Simply go to the person’s profile and click the happy face icon, after that the person you sent the SMILE to will see that you have sent them a SMILE, and hopefully he/she will take some further interest. Send some SMILES and good luck!

Q: Can I show someone I'm interested in him or her without sending a message?
A: Sure! Send them a SMILE! You can SMILE at anyone you like to let them know you're interested! Just click on the SMILE icon in their profile.

Q: What does it mean when I see a SMILE by someone's nickname?
A: It means they're interested in you!

Q: How can I see whom I've sent SMILES to?
A: Just visit your Member Home Page and click on the My Smiles link in the left menu bar. From there, you may look at all the people who you’ve SMILED at, and also the people who have SMILED at you.

How does email communication work?

Have you ever sent e-mails to friends? Well, this is exactly the same. If you like someone and are interested in chatting with him/her, then send him or her a message. Just search for someone that you are interested in, go to his/her profile and click the Send Email button. Sending is a paid feature for people that have purchased VIP Membership. Replying to mail messages is always free.

Q: Where is my email?
A: You can access your email by clicking on the My Emails link at the left menu of any page.

Q: Do I pay for sending mail even if I don't receive a reply?
A: Yes, you do. While we'd like to guarantee a response from everyone you send mail to, but we can’t.
We recommend that you make the most your mail to ensure your chances of getting a reply. Don't just send a short "liked your profile, write back" type of message or a "form letter" you send to everyone.
Instead, respond to their specific profile and tell them why you liked it and why you think you'd make a good connection with them. Try to stand out, so even if the other member isn't going to respond to every message they receive, yours is one that they will want to reply to!

Q: What happened to the mail I was saving?
A: All of the mail your inbox as well as your saved outgoing messages are only stored for a period of 30 days. After that time, your mail is automatically deleted.

Q: I received abusive mail. What can I do?
A: You can BLOCK the person who sent it so they can't communicate with you.
To BLOCK someone, click on their username and then click {block icon}. You can view people on your BLOCK list by clicking on the Blocked List link on your Member Home Page. You'll see the BLOCK icon beside nicknames that are on your BLOCK list.

How does Hotlist work?

Did you find someone that you like a lot? Do you want to keep track of them easily so that you don’t have to search for their profile every time you log on? Well, now you can. Simply go to his or her profile and click the Hotlist icon to add that member to your HOTLIST. You can keep as many people as you want in your HOTLIST and you can always go back and check on them.

Q: What is my HOTLIST?
A: Your HOTLIST is a private list of your favorite members, chosen by you. When you place someone on your HOTLIST you will be able to quickly access his or her profile again whenever you want. Only you can see who's on your HOTLIST, and it’s free.
To add someone to your HOTLIST, click on their profile, then click on the {hotlist add icon} . You can access members on your HOTLIST by clicking on the Hotlist link in the Member Homepage.
To remove someone from your HOTLIST, click on your HOTLIST and then enter that person’s profile and click {remove button}.

How do I block someone from contacting me?

Is someone bothering you on the website? Is there someone that you wish you could disappear from? If someone on the site is making you feel uncomfortable, there are two things you can do. The first is click here and tell us about it. The second is BLOCK this member from communicating with you. This can be done by visiting his or her profile and clicking {block icon}.

Q: What is my BLOCKED list?
A: Your BLOCKED list is a list of members you do not want to hear from. This member will not be able to locate you in a search.
To BLOCK a member, click on their username and then click the {block icon}.

Q: Where do I find my BLOCKED list?
A: Visit your Member Home Page, and click on the Blocked List link.

Why is a profile not available?

Members frequently interact with their profiles. Profiles may not be available for several reasons. If the member is currently updating their profile, it will need to be approved before it becomes active and visible again. Members also have the option to Suspend their profile, perhaps because they want some time out, or could be away for a period of time. Profiles 'not available' will feature a message indicating the status of the profile. Try again later.

Found a suspect profile?

Being truthful and honest in your profile probably gets the best long-term results. However, we cannot verify the content or accuracy of every member’s profile. If you find a profile that does not appear to be truthful or honest (for example, containing a movie star’s photo), please contact us with the details of the profile, including the User Name and Member ID.

We will verify this profile, and where not authentic, will delete the profile from JAPUNDIT Personals and refund any purchased services used to contact that member.

How do photos work?

Q: How do I submit a picture?
A: Upload a picture straight from your hard-drive. Click on the Edit My Profile link on the member home page, followed by the My Photos link

Q: What is the difference between a profile photo and the other photos?
A: The profile photo is posted alongside your profile. Profile pictures help you get noticed!
The other photos will only been seen when a member clicks on the links inside your profile.

Q: Picture tips
A: JAPUNDIT Personals wants you to make a great first impression. Do you know that members with profile pictures are 7 times more likely to receive a message? Here are some helpful hints that'll help you click:

  • If it's a profile picture, make sure it clearly shows your face. If it's blurry, or you're a dot in the background, it's nowhere near as effective as it could be.
  • What does your picture project? Is it a funny picture? A formal picture? Make sure the pictures project what you want others to see.
  • Keep your pictures simple. If it's a crowd of 20 people, it will only confuse members looking at it
  • While body shots are allowed, the most common request members make is: "I'd love to see a picture of your face"
  • Keep your photos fresh. Rotate your profile pictures every couple of weeks. You'd be surprised how many new contacts you can make.
  • Use recent photos. This way you know if a member is attracted to you, not you ten years ago.

Trouble uploading a photo to your profile?

You can add or update a photo on your profile at any time. First, to find the photo management area, follow these steps: Login > click on My Profile > Click on My Photos. Follow the steps to upload a photo from your computer.

Choose a clear photo of yourself. The photo must be in a jpeg, gif or bmp format, with a maximum file size of 100kb. Note that it may take a few minutes to upload the photo. When completed, you should see a thumbnail of your photo displayed on the My Photos page.

Your photo will need to be approved by JAPUNDIT Personals for appropriate content, so please ensure your photo does not contain sexual reference or nudity. Cartoons and illustrations are not permitted.

Where are my Dotlove Credits?

Dotlove was renamed JAPUNDIT Personals are re-launched in June 2003. JAPUNDIT Personals has introduced a totally new system to make it easier for you to find your ideal matches. Credits have now become a unlimited-usage time-based “VIP Membership”, which means you can initiate contact with as many members as you wish.

If you have un-used Credits they will automatically be converted into a VIP Membership in the following manner:

  • less than 20 un-used Credits is equal to 1-month VIP Membership
  • 20 or more un-used Credits is equal to 3 months VIP Membership

What is the difference between Regular, VIP and OPEN CLUB Membership?

Basically, VIP Members are the same as Regular Members, except for one major difference: only VIP Members can initiate contact with other Members using email messages. OPEN CLUB Members are the same as Regular Members, except for one major difference: Regular members can initiate contact with OPEN CLUB Members using email messages without becoming VIP Members.

Problems with your VIP or OPEN CLUB status?

Purchases using our online credit card payment system are processed immediately, and your purchased services (VIP or OPEN CLUB) will be available within a few minutes. The days remaining on your purchased services will be displayed on the Purchase VIP page.

You will receive an email verification receipt of your purchases for your records. For purchases made via our alternative payment options, please note that it may take up to 7 working days to process your payment. You will receive an e-mail verification of your purchase once it has been credited to your account. If there is a problem with your purchase/account, please forward your receipt, Member ID and contact details by clicking here.

What is auto renewal?

When you purchase VIP membership or OPEN CLUB membership with a credit card you will be auto-renewed at the pro-rata monthly rate. For the current rates, please visit the Purchase page. Auto-renewal ensures a convenient and uninterrupted service to maintain contact with other members.

You can terminate your paid status at any time by simply clicking here to send your request. Please note that we need at least two working days to process a cancellation request. Therefore you must send your cancellation request at least two working days before your paid membership term expires.

How can I change my User Name?

To change your password or email address you need to follow this procedure: login to the site > from your home page click on the Edit My Profile link > change your personal details > after changing your details please be sure to click on the Continue button.

If you have changed your email address, a confirmation email will be sent to your new email address. Please click on the link on the email to confirm that your new email address is correct.

How can I change my Password or Email Address?

How do I update my membership?

First, login and click on the My Profile link located near the top of the page. Then click on Edit My Profile on the left menu. The Edit My Profile page is where you can update your member details, including your Password, e-mail address, as well as your personal profile. Update the areas as required and click on the Continue button to save your new details.

How do I suspend or delete my membership?

If you wish to deactivate your membership and/or take a break from JAPUNDIT Personals for a while, simply login and click on the My Profile link located near the top of the page. Then click on Suspend My Profile, and confirm your action by clicking the confirmation button. This will cancel all site services and hide your profile from other members.

What is “Appropriate Content”?

Our Appropriate Content Policy is designed to maintain the quality and appropriateness of content inside Member Profiles, for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all members. Profiles will not be approved if they contain:

  • Personal contact information, such as a telephone number, email address, mailing address, links to any home pages, messenger information, or any hints for those information, or a message which is intended for a specific individual(s).
  • Inappropriate language in your Username.
  • Sexually explicit language.
  • Defamatory, abusive, aggressive or violent content .
  • Offensive or obscene language (including swear words).
  • Racially offensive or blasphemous terminology.
  • Defamatory, abusive, aggressive or violent content.
  • Sexually suggestive content or nudity in your photo.
  • Infringes or violates intellectual property rights - such as a photo of a celebrity.
  • Where the photo is a cartoon, illustration, animal, scenery or object of anything other than yourself.
  • A photo of you when you are aged under 18 years old (example: baby photo).
  • Promotes a third party entity .
  • Insufficient or illegible content .

What is the Chat feature of the site?

The Chat now feature of the site allows two users to directly communicate to each other using our instant messenger software. Both users need to be online to facilitate this feature.

How do I use the Chat feature of the site?

The Chat feature of the site is started when you send a chat invitation to another user that is online. You can send chat invitations from the users’ profile page. Under the user’s main picture, click the “Chat now” button. You can add a personal message to your chat invitation which could help increase your chances and getting your invitation accepted. Once your chat invitation has been sent, you will receive a response within five minutes. The other user has the option to accept, deny or ignore your request. You will be notified of the user’s response via alert notification window. If the other user accepts your chat invitation, you will be prompted to launch our instant messenger software in a new window.

How do I accept a chat invitation?

If another user sends you a chat invitation, an alert window will appear. You will have the option to accept, deny or ignore the invitation. To accept the chat invitation, click the “Accept” link in the notification window. Our instant messenger software will open in a new window. The initiating user will get an alert that you have accepted the chat invitation.

How do I deny a chat invitation?

If another user sends you a chat invitation, an alert window will appear. You will have the option to accept, deny or ignore the invitation. To deny the chat invitation, click the “Deny” link in the notification window. You will be prompted to input a personal message of why you want to deny the chat invitation. Once sent, the initiating user will get an alert that you have denied the chat invitation.

How do I use the instant messenger software?

Once you have opened the instant messenger software in a new window, you can directly communicate to the other user. A notification message will display when other user has the instant messenger software open as well. When this message displays, you can begin sending instant messages to each other. To send a message, type your message in the light blue box above the ‘send’ button. You may either send your message by hitting ‘enter’ or ‘return’, or by clicking the ‘send’ button.

What other features can I use in the instant messenger software?

Our instant messenger software allows you to send and receive audio and video to the other user. You must have a microphone and web camera to send audio and video to the other user. To enable this feature, click the ‘show a/v’ button in the lower pane of the message window. You can choose to turn on/off the microphone and video by clicking the appropriate button. To restrict receiving either audio or video, click the ‘a/v’ button in the upper right pane of the message window, then click the appropriate button. You can also send a “kiss” or a “smack” to the other user. Click the triangle button, and the two options will appear over the other user’s profile. Click which one you would like to send to the other user.

What is the JAPUNDIT Personals Phone page?

This page is the main source of Chat communication on the site. The page is divided into three sections: Inbox, Outbox and Online Matches. Inbox displays the 10 most recent chat requests you have received. Chat requests that are highlighted with the color green, mean the other user is online. To accept the chat request, click on the online now icon. To deny the chat request, click the delete icon. The outbox displays the 5 most recent chat requests that you have sent. They will be removed from the list when the other user responds to your chat request. The Online Matches section lists profiles that are currently online and fit your ideal match. Click there individual profiles to send them a chat invitation.

I am sending many chat invitations to a lot of users but getting no responses. How do I increase my chances of receiving a response?

When sending a chat invitation to another user, there are a variety of reasons why you do not receive a response. Sometimes the user is busy doing something else and is just logged in our system. Sometimes users are in a chat session with other users thus miss new chat invitations. Sometimes users really don’t want to chat and forget to send a denied message back. A good way to get a response from a chat invitation is to send a personal message with the invitation stating why you would like to chat with this person, what you intend to chat about, etc. This personal message should be inviting and should attract the user to want to chat with you as well. If in the event the user does not respond to your well written personal message, you may first opt to email this person before inviting the user to chat. Maybe a lengthy conversation via email will entice the other user to have a chat with you. Just remember that some users are a bit shy or a language barrier might be present so a live chat might not be the best form of communication at the beginning.

Where else can I find users that are online who I could invite to chat with?

Try using our Quick Search feature and make sure you check the ‘user online’ check box. The results to this search will display all users that fit your search criteria and are online at the moment. Click there profile page and invite them for a chat!

How do I modify the preferences for the profiles that display on the ‘Online Matches’ section?

Just update your Ideal Match preferences to modify the profiles that are displayed here. We suggest you widen you Ideal Match preferences to allow multiple profiles to be displayed here. To update you Ideal Match, click ‘My Profile’ from the top navigation; click ‘Edit My Profile’. On the third profile page update the ‘My Ideal Match’ settings.

A lot of people are sending me chat invitations but I am not getting any alert notifications windows. I only see the chat invitations when I go to the JAPUNDIT Personals Phone page.

To receive alert notifications windows for chat invitations, make sure you alert window settings are on. To turn it on/off go to the JAPUNDIT Personals Phone page. On the upper right hand side, the setting is displayed if the alert window setting is on/off. To update its status, just click the link beside the setting and it will be reversed.

When I accept a chat invitation or click the link to ‘Launch IM’, the instant messenger window does not open.

You may have a pop-up window blocker enabled in your internet browser. You must disable the pop-up window blocker to launch the instant messenger window. Refer to you internet browser help file to configure this.

How do I configure my web video camera to use in the instant messenger software?

Select ‘open a/v’ or ‘show a/v’. Right-click over ‘mic off video off’ and select ‘Settings’. You will see the following Macromedia Flash Player Settings dialogue box. Select ‘Allow’. Click the webcam icon. Once you are in the Camera Settings dialogue box, select your camera from the drop-down list. If your camera is not available, your camera is not properly connected. Check to make sure that you have the proper drivers installed for your camera and that your device is plugged in and turned on, if applicable. Close this dialogue box.

How do I configure my microphone to use in the instant messenger software?

Select ‘open a/v’ or ‘show a/v’. Right-click over ‘mic off video off’ and select ‘Settings’. You will see the following Macromedia Flash Player Settings dialogue box. Select ‘Allow’.
